A lot of that has to do with the species. There are a few species out there that don't do well with a lack of UV or natural sunlight.

Sorry I forgot to specify...Im talking regular baskers here; sliders, cooters, painteds, etc....all without UV.

Just remenbar this: ading multivitamins can make you over do it specialy with such small animals. If you expose your turts to sun or UV ligth they will sintetise on there own the exact amount they need. Give them a very varied diet and Uv ligth and you have nothing to worry about. Im not a big fan of ading vitamins (most prepared and natural foods already have them anyway) and if your turts are healty there is no need for that. Remenbar that excess vitamins (called hipervitaminosis for that matter) is as letal as the lack of them. Also remenbar that ading vitamins is no substitute for a good diet, in the same way that we cant expect to have a long healty life eating popcorn and centrum:grinno:

Ive keept and bred this same species for years without UV ligth (they simply didnt existed here at that time)but on a good diet of turt pelets and natural food stuffs and they trived. Turts as far as my experience goes can use injested vit D3 as long as they have the correct temp and calcium. But now I see real improvements on my turtle´s growth and well being since they are housed outside and have UV ligth inside. I deply recomend UV ligth for all turtles. The one I trust are the 5.0 flurescent (not the compact ones) iguana ligth from zoomed:D

They make t-12's with the correct spectrum's in them huh? I think this will be perfect as I have NO shortage of t-12 fixtures.

That is the one I said to avoid! What I recomend is reptisun or iguana ligth 5.0. A 10.0 is a absolute overkill for aquatic turts. 5.0 is the way to go. Also dont buy compact ligths even 5.0, they tend to be to strong and can cause eye damage on turts. Its interesting how Zoomed can come with such great stuff like iguana ligth and repti sun and then screw on the compact ligths:confused:
