Has anyone had one for a long period of time? I was wondering if they ever become active at all when the lights are on. This is a beautiful cat, I love their colors. But right now all he does is stay completely hidden and steals my limas food cause they like to take their time eating. If they eventually get use to light I think he is worth it but if this is what I can always expect I don't know if I should keep em.

Get used to it. They never come out with the lights on unless it's to grab some food as fast a possible and dash back in there hole.

agreed.... plus they grow slow.......

No they dont ever get used to it. Three in the house, two rescued and the other raised from a small age, and they all hide. All from 7-10".

Congrats - Like me you own the worlds most boring catfish. I've had mine a year and only see it if I suprise it in the dark with a torch.

my 8 incher barely ever comes out. i was thinking the same thing. i kinda wantto get rid of him and get a little bullhead because my last bullhead was awsome he allways came out and would even eat off the top of the tank for pellets and just had much more personality

mine was a hider then he began eating my moms fish when he got large so i gave him to my friend now its out all the time and has been every time ive been over there. if i were you i would take away his hide away for a while get him used to being in the light. when i first gave it to him and we put it in the tank all there was were plants and after a few mins of sitting in them he came out and swam around the bright tank for hours this was months ago now hes bought him a hollow log, he'll sit in it for about 20 min then swim around for 10-15 mins and repeat all day long.
