well im not looking to buy any fish right now. my friend has a green sunfish and a pumpkinseed in his 30 gallon with a bunch of other fish and the green sunfish is only 4-5 inches and the pumpkinseed is only 3 inches and he has had both for a few months. the green sunfish was mine and the pumpkinseed is his brothers.
well ive gotten one baby bluegill in my tank for now. im getting a small koi from a friend to take care of the snail problem in my tank. i give it a week before i put it into the pond with the other koi. hopeing that the other koi dont get eaten by the other big fish we are putting in like the 23 inch channel catfish, along with other catfish, bass, sunfish, and sturgeon.
You could always keep them as small fish and if they grow too big then set up a pond outside. They will overwinter well.
ill do that when they get bigger. ive got a 3 inch bluegill, 3 inch pumpkinseed and my new 1.5 inch sunfish that i dont know what it is right now. ill be able to tell when it grows another half inch to an inch more.
keep in mind that bluegill have the temperment of a moody oscar and are extremely territorial. honestly i would be very cautious adding that many to a tank any smaller than 100 gallons IMO. either way you decide to do it post some pics! good luck
ill try to post some pics. my bluegill gets along with my other fish just fine. all my fish are peaceful, at least for now.
