Max size: 10-16 inches
Tank size: 29gal for 1 adult, 55gal For 2-3 adults, If keeping more then that to adult size at least a 75gal is recommended
Bluegill are found throughout North America

Identification: Black dot at base of the posterior dorsal fin. Has a solid black/dark blue ear flap on the gill plate that is flexible. Narrow vertical bars on the side. Olive to dark brown color on top of the body fainting to Lighter color at the bottom of its body. Males are generally darker in in color then females. “Breast” are light orange or light yellow. Males during spawning get very dark and look purple in color, some develop a copper color on their foreheads. Bottom of the gill plate is light blue. Long pointed pectoral fins.11-12 anal, 13-14 pectoral, 10-12 dorsal, and 5 pelvic rays, 3 anal and 10 dorsal spines, 38-48 scales on lateral line. Young bluegills generally have a iridescent purple shine and are lighter then adults.

Redear sunfish
Lepomis microlophus
Temp:70 to 80 Degrees F
Food: Pellets, flakes, frozen, live, meaty
Max size: 10-16.5 inches
Tank size: same as Bluegill
Redears are mostly found in the southeastern North America, but due to stocking have expanded west word ( New Mexico) and north word (Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio)

Identification: Redears have either a red dot or a red lining around the ear flap. The wider the red its a male. Eyes are red with black pupils. Orange tinted breast. There are three different colors of Redear sunfish (#1)one has sides that are colorful with vertical bands of greens and browns with a hint of orange or yellow. Version (#2) two have olive grey on top fainting to yellow white on the bottom, and the (#3) third has dark vertical bands/bars down sides of its body. 9 to 11 dorsal and 3 anal spines. 10-11 dorsal, 9-11 anal, 12-14 pectoral soft rays.

As, Native fish keeping is my last stop on a 30 year run in the fishkeeping hobby, (58 yrs old) i really hope not everyone agrees with you Gator, I really enjoy hearing what all the native guys have to say, as i, having just started about 6 months ago, i have still about everything left to learn. I can understand why what he has to say is a drag to you, but some of us, me at least enjoy the pics, and some of the comments, and replys. If this part of the forum becomes a joke as you say, and people stop posting, i got no reason to stay.
