I got them. 3 full grown, 1 small and one tiny. I won't set up the 55g untill after the summer, now they are in a 30g with 2 other brichardi (probably daffodil). Maybe I can put a divider till the comps grow? Or find room for another tank =P
The two largest seam to be fond of each other, probably a pair. They dominate the 30g, the tiny one isn't in conflict with them (probably one of their older offspring). The other 2 are near the top of the tank. My male daffodil has saked out one rock for himself towards the side, and the female daffodil is hanging about with the other 2 shunned sunsets.
they should be less aggressive as juvis and they should "play nice" with other brichardi just watch for your Helianthus male to start defending the entire tank. I would leave them in the 30 and use the 55 to combine other fish in because these guys are going to want there own setup and 30 is plenty.
I had a breeding pair each of Neolamp. pulcher "daffodil" and Neolamp. helianthus on opposite ends of a 60 gallon tank, all similar sized. All seemed well till the end of the week when I came home from work and found that the daffodils had handed the helianthus' ***es to them.
In my experience with them they've always been bit more mellow. After that I kept my breeding pair with some kribs and african glass cats. Never seemed to get too out of control.
I'm sorry to say but these guys will eventually 'beat' down the comps... especially when breeding. I've had many comps in the past and they are for the most part a very docile species (except for some with their own species).
Thanks for the info. I have pictures, I just don't know how to up-load them. They will be in the 30 gallon for the summer, as the only type (exept for the daffodil male, who has now dominated a whole corner). I also have two 10g available, so after the summer I could put those to use. Whould a single pair fit into a 10g?
