Asides from a royal i had a long time ago none of my L600's ever created such a mess. Even an L200 left the dw alone.

Im not sure if the L14 is taking part in the destruction but im almost positive the l253 is. I usually keep this tank pristine so this isnt gonna workout long term.

Is this common ?

Some species of Pleco require wood in their diets from what I have read.

I think it’s not so much the wood it’s after but the bio film growing on the wood.
Try offering some extra vegetables zucchini or sweet potatoes see if that makes them lay off the wood a bit.
I know these guys are primarily meat lovers but my l024 and spiny monster both enjoy some veggies every now and then.

Good suggestion and yeah come to think of it the bio film makes sense. I'll try the veggies though the pearsei is going to make this difficult lol

If you have a pearsei in the tank, that could be the culprit. Or pearsei are such greedy eaters, the 14/253 aren't getting enough food and resorting to the biofilm. 14s are very greedy eaters, but I had to move mine from a tank with a pearsei and severums because it couldnt get enough food.

The teeth of an L14 are not suited to be wood eaters, but they arent as specialized for meat eating like pseudas or leporacanthicus. If the wood is super soft it could take some chunks out of it and do what you see.

I dont think thats the case. The plecos get there fair share of pellets with the bichirs along with tilapia that the pearsei would not touch if his life depended on it.

Do you have any pics of the 14- I’m toying with the idea of picking one up possibly even tomorrow. So interested in the outcome here

Edit* - I am now seeing the other thread with them in it :duh:
