Read the article. It's very clear on what the bacteria consume and what they produce. They are extremely anaerobic and only tolerate trace amounts of oxygen. It's all in the article. The bottom line is that it's really delicate and difficult and the experts have deemed it difficult to culture.

That just means it hasn't been experimented with enough. Give them 5-10 years and they'll have turned it into something that's a public health threat because they can't kill it anymore...

yeah you're right, it hates oxygen. i don't know what's necessary to successfully culture it at home.

they've been playing with it since the 80's, so i'm not gonna hold my breath waiting for something to put in my filters.
