A long way from Amphioxus
So I just finished super gluing baby java ferns to a piece of driftwood and was wondering what people thought of this.

My java ferns have been making babies like crazy, I started with three and now, about a month later, I probably have 15-20 little baby plants. These have been floating around the tank for a while now and today I decided I would try to attach them to a piece of driftwood.

I was too lazy to tie every one on with thread so I thought I would try gluing them to the driftwood. I figure since people use super glue to attach coral frags to live rock, then I should be able to use it to attach java fern to driftwood.

I only used a tiny bit of gel super glue per plant so that it just attached it and shouldn't hinder the plants growth any.

So what are yall's thoughts? I am not sure if it will work, or if it will end horribly, but I dont have much to loose.

I thought silcone worked to? But yes, look for DISOLVING on the super glue.

Isn't superglue toxic?

I use super glue to attach java ferns, moss, and anubias to wood and rock and it has worked great. I really glob it on to make sure its secure and it hasn't affected growth afaik. It even works best when stuff is wet as it makes the glue cure virtually instantly, although it will dry hazy white eventually the plant growth covers that along with diatoms or algae.

Cyanoacrylate 'super glue' was developed by the military as an emergency chemical bandage for severe lacerations, so I'd imagine that makes it pretty non toxic just dangerous since it bonds nearly instantly to skin.

Well, it hasnt killed any of my fish yet and the plants look as good at they ever did, so I would call it a success. It did dry white, but I think it will get covered in algae pretty quick. Why isnt this more popular with freshwater plant people?
