I don't think it turned the wrong way I think its just genetics and the possibility of it happening to certain fish. You never know whats in the genetic stew of alot of strains.

i assumed (incorrectly) that a 4-5" discus was past the point of changing

Not really Piwowarski turqs alot of times don't achieve full colors till 6" or over. White butterflys or cobalts sometimes take till 6" or over to turn completely solid on the body.

its not an 'issue" as said many times its the genetics and alot of people (myself included0 prefer white butterflies to be clean

Both the fish pictured in this thread were from two different suppliers and breeders so I believe it is linked with how this strain is created.
And Forrest stock and the stock were new2natives fish came from are both excellent sources.
