I am honestly more concerned with keeping his figure thick and proportionate, rather than worrying about his cheek development, as some of you have already mentioned, early cheek development does not necessarily prove a quality fish. At such an early age as well, choosing a quality fish is almost impossible. The best you could do is choose by other characteristics as fin length, head shape, and overall body proportion.

Most Red arowanas will have cheek development between the sizes of 12-14", while "early bloomers" can show signs at around 9-10". Mine is currently around 8" with the tail.
