In Hong Kong, we have a place called the Mong Kok aquarium market, and there we have some extra special oddball fish considered as extremely rare fish in other countries. While in the East Coast Monster Fish Konvention, Monodactylus Sebae are on display as a rare fish, in Hong Kong, we have them in nearly every single aquarium store. In the Mong Kok aquarium market, I have found 2 different oddball species that are considered rare in other countries, these 2 species are currently being kept by Rachel O'Leary that will be coming to the convention. I just want to know how to keep them incase I would like to try, I have heard not many people know about this species. We have fully freshwater raised Monodactylus Sebae in loads of shops.

Those Mono sebae are rare here because they are not a popularly purchased fish and most stores rarely bring them in..They used to be a common sight in the stores in this area.

As a person having lived in HK almost all my life, i can tell you as a fact we get a lot of rare odd-balls from time to time depending on seasons...

although now a days, a lot of those shops that specialized in odd-balls have since closed down...

Also, you must remember, Mong Kok fish market is all about fish of the month, so whatever fish is a "hot item" during that period, almost every store will try and stock it...

Take rays for example, about 2-3 years ago, almost every store carried rays, now barely any carry them...

Same with Panda Loaches, start of the year, everyone was carrying them coz they were the new hot item, 2 weeks ago i went out and only 2 maybe 3 stores were stocking them...

Not to mention, as i've learnt in the past, if there is a fish you really want and only a few stores have them, and you know you can house it properly, BUY IT then and there...

I cant count the amount of times i hesitated just 5-10 min, walked off just to come back to find the fish sold!!!

So what im trying to say is, dont take it for granted, coz fish fly off those racks fast (especially rare ones), and with the amount of stores that have closed in recent months, im not sure how long the Mong Kok fish market we know and love will last sadly...

Alright, what size tank do you think it would need?

In Hong Kong they are a native species. You find them in rivers in Hong Kong.

^ Where exactly are they found in HK? Since i don't really know of any Freshwater River Systems in HK, except for the a few man made ponds for storing freshwater...

-EDIT-

So after some research, it seems there are a couple of freshwater streams in some of the country parks out in the New Territories... but i wouldn't say river system, as for the fish you asked about here, it doesn't seem to be a Native HK fish, more a fish found commonly in places like Vietname, Laos, and other parts of East Asia... so not sure if you will find them in a HK stream some where...

in Canada(Ontario) I see Monodactylus Sebae all the time

EDIT: nvm I was reffering to the monodactylidae family

Don't keep small fishes with them, they are highly predatory minnows.
