Its been said already but go take the MSF course.Buy a used bike that your not gonna care about beat it around for a year or so then get what you want.The MSF couse was easy i just passed it last weekend.DONT BUY A NEW BIKE IF YOUR ONLY LEARNING

I have to Agree W/ nate , my first street bike ( as opposed growing up with dirt bikes and quads ) was a 1996 yamaha yzf 600, dropped it multiple times, took a safety course and then worked my way up to the Bimmer.........Well dropped that frickin one a couple times in so cal pulling stunts............pretty stupid........and it cost me some big bucks in repairs..............
take it slow, progression is key, 0-60 mph is not worth getting killed over.....
I driven way to many friends to the ER because of false bravado!!!!!!!!!
