All the votes about what type of filter to use, now its time to see what media choice everyone likes. In regards to my Penguins, I used the stock filters for awhile, but they didn't seem to be super, and they cost a bit much, so I switched to drs foster and smiths BIO3 filter cartridges found here:

They have been working great so far, but then the other day someone mentioned and suggested I try the supercartridge from drs foster and smith, which can be found here:

so whats everyones thoughts and personal experiences?

I like the BIO3 cartridge cause you can remove the original floss and fill it with polyfil or pot scrubbers or even another blue bio3 sponge. Cheaper replacements. Or if you use 2 sponges then you just alternatly rinse each one weekly and never replace them unless they tear.

neither I have used both and they both restrict water flow especially the bio3. They are both a pain to keep clean enough for water to flow through. I modified my bio3 cartridges to keep two sponges and trashed the carbon they work good now.

What filter do you use it in?

I would go with the Cell pore cartridges sold at Dr. Fosters......

Have you had good expierence with them? Do they clog? How do you know when to clean them? Do you put them in the slot where your normal cartridge would go or in front/behind it?

I have used the cell pore too it work well for about 3-4 months and then clogs. I used them in penguins and whispers with the same results IMO foam works best or ceramic rings. The intention of those products is good but they dont last long. I have some bio blocks for a whisper 60 just laying around cant find a good use for them.
