Superworms for Gar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I tried Superworms and they died once they sunk and he didn't take them. And I picked a few worms and he was not interested. Nothing but live foods and i can get live for him they have nothing to choose from...

try FD krill...floats at surface, brightly colored, smells, and i haven't had a gar yet that didn't eventually convert to taking it. it may take some time, but it's a great "gateway" feed in terms of converting from live to non-live as well as just getting fish to eat. make sure it sees you drop it in front of the fish. you can also put it on a piece of hard acrylic tubing and wave it front of the gar (all these tactics are covered in pinned topics and other posts). good luck--

PS-- you tried the worms, if they don't work then don't bother with them again. i have fed them on occasion in the past but it's been years since messing with that relatively inefficient feed type.

I tried krill for 2 weeks even dangling it and he still won't bother. He is so stubborn, he only eats live but they are too expensive.

didn't we determine the gar has been with a pike cichlid that has very likely been stressing it out? i think you need to remove the PC and start again...amazing what removing a major stressor will do for a small gar's appetite--

Well good but bad news. The PC SIS out of the tank. Bad news... Down the toilet, I came home today and it was dead... With eggs hanging out of its belly... Idk how it died it has been doing great for a long time but a few days ago it got all red on its side that looked like a road rash on a person but on his side. She had the cuts or burns on both sides.
