LOL, no kids, just fish and a dog who believes hole heartedly he's my kid, the rock and wood were on the shelf for months at my lfs and had never been in a tank, don't feed live feeders, and honestly don't have a clue how it got there, or how it's survived with these cichlids, not a very friendly group. But my Tandi did break out with ich about 2 or 3 months ago without any known cause or warning and had been well established for months, so i'm thinking he could have been the culprit, or whatever was added with him, who knows.

when i was 5 years old i had 2 plecos. one died and the other just disapeared and we never found him. when i was 7 or 8 i was cleaning the fishtank with my dad and when i lefted up the castle that we had in the tank there was my old pleo! i got scared because it looked ugly and at first i didnt know what it was. when my dad shook it out of the castle it came out! amazingly it was growing in the castle!!!!!!!!!! it was pretty big. well just wanted to share.

but i really don't thing anyone put it in there, just cause i don't know anyone around here who just carries live crayfish around in their pocket. only thing i can think of, and it's a long shot, is maybe one of my cichlids had maybe eaten a crayfish with eggs at the lfs and spit an egg into my tank, but my last fish added to this tank was probably 6 or 7 months ago, or the lfs net could have had some eggs attached and fell into the bag, who knows, but i like it.

they don't keep them in there, sometimes they come in from the suppliers that way.

I imagine its because feeders are kept in ponds/indoor vats at the suppliers, and crayfish find there way in there. probably because the supplier has crayfish for sale too.

they stick to nets easily, and get transfered around.

they take a big scoop of feeders and end up with crayfish in there.

I know when we used to order rosey reds and goldfish, there would be the odd crayfish in there, and also the odd bullfrog tadpole in the summer months.
