Any surf fishermen/women out there? I went out for the first time last night and caught 2 sharks around 24" and a medium sized skate.

yall dont know what your missing! The blues should be here in full force within the next two weeks!

i shore fish up in MA, but stripers arnt here for another month or so, and the blues arent here til late july. however at this time of year you can surfcast for cod, but its not very productive

We go surf fishing every time we fly to our grandparents house in New Jersey in the summer time. They Live on Long Beach Island and right on the beach. A few years back, my brother and i caught a pretty nice size Bluefish. Id say it was around 30 in or so. The last couple of years we havent really had any luck, just tons of skates, and a few nice flounders.

Haha.

lol those pictures are great! why not just get a kayak though?

I surf fish for shark, mullet, kingfish, flounder, drum, seatrout, blues and stripers. The best luck I've ever had was at night in ocean city with the fly rod. Challenging fishing, but caught a buttload of fish. It's interesting how you have to learn to read a beach to find the good spots. I once came upon a large group of sharks tailing in the surf. turns out they were eating flounder. Very impressive sight to see, all those tails flying in the air from 6-10' sharks. Caught one shark about 24". the rest was all pompano and flounder. Oh yeah, and lot's of skates.

that is just asking to die

seriously have you seen the vid on youtube where a monster shark wipes out the persons marlin 5 feet from the boat

Do what you want, but, I doubt there be enough of the person who gets attacked to bury or even if there be any of them when they get mistaken for prey in the midst of an electro charged thrash of water. And a shark mistakes them for prey and they bleed out in fast order because their fish took them far out to water and they pass out from the lack of blood from the investigative bite.

In that last pic the persons legs are hanging just at the right spot for where the shark would hit the fish if it comes from the front side.

Let's go one farther. The shark hits the fish from the back and it very quickly convulses towards him shishkebab.

what about the snorkeler in the water?
Seriously though, it's in the Galapagos islands and occasionaly Australia that the marlin get hit by big sharks. In all probability, this person was not in that area. It also doesn't happen that frequently, ecxept in the Galapagos. There, it's almost hard to land a fish in one piece.
