Surgery or not??

looks like hex to me its developed in his face makes him look like he has duck lips. I have had my share of this illness I have loss some good fish due to it I also have recover alot too. I dnt recommend cutting anything off just put in a clean quarantine tank I add epsome salt and jungle parasite guard and water change 50% every 2 days or so. In extreme cases the swelling gets worse. I had a few fh that had it real bad and I poked the swollen part with a needle and slimy funky yellow puss came out. Of course the fish is extremly stressed by this but after doing it mabey 1-3 times a plus the meds He began eating again and healed up perfectly. Again that was an extreme case and its not guranteed to work I have loss a few from this as well 3 out of 5 fish survived. In your case it dosnt look too extreme yet so I would just medicate. Good luck

That's silly. If I had an assist growing between my eyes on my nose that prevented me from seeing in front of my face would be a better analogy. Then yes, I would want it gone so I could see better. There are many ways to talk to people, and your way is rude and uncalled for. I came to this website for advice, not to be threatened by you, and not to be called names either....

For starters we are humans. If you had a growth on your nose that blocked your vision we can put you under so you can't feel a thing and wrap it up after the surgery. Also we can medicate and make sure you don't die from bacteria.

Cutting a sliver off the fish's eye area is totally different. It will surely die from stress or infection. If fish can lose eyes or go blind they can still live. They have more ways to search for food. Plus this fish's eyes are perfectly fine! It can still find food.

Also from the pictures that you have showed us we might as well say it's similar to a pimple on your nose! Your going to cut that pimple off? The pics show us that there may be a problem that others have said (hex). Nowhere near what your blowing it out to proportions though.

Thanks! That's my plan. Just medicate, and a lot of water changes. I have nls thermal A formula, and also Epsom salt soaked food.

Read all the posts. I'll give you the same advice I gave the other guy. There are many ways to talk to people, and your way is wrong. You called me crazy, immature, and told someone they should cut my ears off. You're like a dog who smells blood, and is always ready to attack. I asked for advice, not to be called names so you can feel better about yourself. What you did serves no purpose. I've read over and over people on here attacking others because they don't know as much they do. It's childish, and worthless.

There is nothing wrong with your fish or at the very least it doesn't merit cutting apart some piece near his eyes off. I still stand by my words. It is crazy to think just because he can not see directly in front of him that means he needs surgery. Believe me I don't feel better calling people crazy. If the shoe fits.....

i dont see anything in front or around his eyes that are not suppose to be there.
I don't see no scar tissue blocking his eyes or anything wrong at the eye areas at all. I just see that he had duck lips and might get it again if water is not good.

Dont cut him man. It will not help hi eyes if you cut him up. There's nothing to cut but his face that's suppose to be ike that. Midas cichlids have chunky front face like that too. It's the way they suppose to be. Don't cut the poor guy man. I know u wanna fix your fish but this is not needed/ good luck with it

He's eating. Only nls therma A sinking pellets. I've been soaking them in Epsom salt first. He won't eat from the top of the tank, and rarely swims around. He still seems like he can't see well. Wither it's from all the fighting, or he's sick only time will tell. Thanks for asking :)

I think I'm gonna just cut one side down, and see if he can see any better.

Fish looks fine to me. If pics dont show it, I would suggest bringing it to a trained vet who is experienced with fish and get their professional opinion. There is no way I would ever ever ever try to do any remodelling on that fishes face. Looks totally fine.
