Suttonorum or Cochliodon? Identify

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm fairly sure my BEC is a female. Came across a male at a great price but passed as I'd heard horror stories about housing multiple Blue Eyes together. Learned after that most issues were with Suttoni, not Cochliodon.

Looks like yours is a Suttoni. Have you had any aggression issues with them?

I regret not buying the male BEC but I know they'll show up again.

Would love to add a BES though. Yours looks awesome!

Yes its suttonorum. I tried to keep them in same tank but after some time female started to chase male all the time.

Quality specimens (suttonorum) can be very blue bodied. Cochilodon has very blue eyes which look good too.

I'm still yet to come across a Suttoni in a shop.
Can't imagine I'd be able to leave it there if I did.

Don't need specific numbers if not comfortable but were yours a lot or expensive that BEC or same ballpark?

Same price range. All blue eyes are got cheaper. Here in Europe 30 cm blue eye from shop 350-500 euros.

There are still BES selling in your area? I haven't seen one in Asia for 2 years now.
:envy

Yes BES is rare but i have seen some for sale. Check Pier Aquatics should have for sale now. Mine came from Germany.

I just came across a BES and am thinking about buying it.
My BEC is the bully of my tank but doesn't seem to do anything more than chase others.

How much more aggressive is the BES really? I don't want to add something that may actually murder my other plecos. I have a number that are said to be aggressive (big pseudas, other royals and large l14) but have never had an issue beyond chasing.

Very tempted as it's a smaller specimen and the price is right but hoping to get some first hand experience.

If it’s a male the chances are it’ll chase the other plecs, it may kill them. I currently have a female blue eye that doesn’t bother with my typhoons, she’s very placid. The male blue eye I had previously was nuts.
