does anyone know of a good book to get started in SW? im looking at getting a copy of the second edition of the conscientious marine aquarist, i have the first and it wowed me with the pictures. any books out there with suggested stocking schemes similar to the FW schemes presented in the simple guide to freshwater aquariums? i also see theres a newer edition of the salt version of that coming out january?

thanks

IMO, the best way to learn how to care for it is asking questions, so if you have any questions about how to set everything up and how to care for it, I'll be glad to answer them.

Here's a great reference. I read through this before I started my reef and it helped me a lot. They have a large amount of information for beginners.

i like to go the book route. but alot of times i do come on here to ask about mixing with other tankmates and such. like the book i have shows you how to setup a little bit, not too detailed though.

Ya, when i came on MFK i learned so much more than i did with books/internet.

Being able to ask professionals questions about specific things is easier than looking them up, and you get better answers usually.

i can usually learn most things from a book, but there are a few things that most books dont hit like tank sizes for certain fish and stocking rates to go with them. but i think im gonna go get that those two books, cuz i know the freshwater version of the simple guide to aquariums was really helpful when i first started, and the 1st edition of the conscientious marine aquarist really opened my eyes, even though i was unaware that i shouldve bought the 2nd and not the first edition. thanks
