Is there any hope for bichirs who swallowed a piece of gravel? I purchased a 5 inch albino bichir from the fish store that kept it on gravel and didn't notice that it's had a lump on its stomach that won't go away. Is there any chance the gravel will pass through or can the bichir live a normal long life despite the gravel? Really bothers me..it costed me $32 too...Don't have a camera except low quality labtop webcam but i'm 99% sure it's a piece of gravel....

Hard to say. If it’s a small piece it’ll pass on occasion. Would try a little non scented Epsom salt 1tbsp per 5g. Hope for th le best. Switch out the gravel to sand if not done already. Could do it again.

Will the espom salt aid in passing through or will it cause the bichir to vomit out the gravel? Thanks for the input, tank is bare bottom

added the espom salt yesterday....the lump seems too big to be able to pass....really bums me out and can't stop thinking about it...anyone else been through this situation?

The fish store owner doesn't seem to be aware of the dangers of keeping bichirs on gravel but then again, he's got a ton of different fish to take care of and know about....

hey. I am not sure if my albino swallowed a piece of gravel or a fertilizer tab, but he had a bump for a while. Sometimes they are fine and will pass it, but sometimes they don't. Sorry you are going through this.

Great advice from Dr. @kn04te :) Just do your best to keep the albino on sand and just keep an eye on him/ her. Let us know if his/her behavior changes at all.

kno4te kno4te : any advice on the feeding?

If you can catch the poly and see if you can move the gravel by pushing it. It work for me before.

Thank you and appreciate your input everyone, I will keep an eye and really hopefully things turn out okay.
