Today I purchased a carnivorous Plant, I'm Not sure what type, but it looks pretty sick. Then I got this idea... What If I put it in my fish tank, and make a Swamp themed tank. So I ask you MFK, What substrate, fish, plants etc would be appropriate for this. The tank I have spare for this is a 7.5 gal and It's 1'x1'x1'.

What is this so called carnivorous plant? If its brought as a non aquatic plant, then its in the plants own intrest to stay out of water.
If its a Venus Fly Trap, just stick to flies and air.

It's required to be in the water, But not fully submerged.

If Im guessing right, its a semi-water/shallow water type plant. I've seen them done in shallow ponds wheres you leave the plant in a pot and just let the roots and some of the leaves if you wish to be in the water.

Yep, So what fish and what should the gravel or whatever be?

sounds like a great idea, sorry I don't know what to tell you, play sand looks nice, but may not be the best for growing plants, I just dug some sand out of the horseshoe pits in my backyard (yeah, we're hic's here). My plants did great in that.

1'x1'x1' tank and then having to have that plant half in/half out of the water etc, would require some sort of ledge? It's going to eat up more precious space, also are you going to have a tank lid? What happens when your plant grows higher then the lid?

Also you really need to find out the exact ID of this plant, just to make sure it doesn't release any sort of poisonous toxins etc.

With a tank that size and the sound of what your after, why not just get a newt or some crazy frogs?
