Swamp Thing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that looks pretty sweet dude, do you have any kind of filtration?

Yep. You can see the two overflows in there, and what I did was drill a few 1.75'' holes with grates on them into approximately the height I wanted the water to be into the rightmost one. Then I only have the pump on the left going. So it uses about half the main filtration my old tank did mechanically, but has my whole insane overkill sump system from my 220 running for maybe 80g of water. I've got bioballs in there, ceramic rings, and a small refugium area with shrimps and moss balls and java fern. And pothos growing out of the open end, a little.

That whitish moss over the water is awesome! What's it called?

Basic spanish moss. The stuff that you find everywhere in FLA. I've got a TON of leftover moss from this project, only used about 10% and it's still live in a box here. I'm gonna give it away to my LFS, so if anybody wants some for free before I do let me know! (In NYC area.)

And to everybody else, thanks for the compliments. To answer the most frequent question, right now I've got one impossible-to-catch ropefish and a handfull of clown loaches I tossed in there to deal with my snails.

But the first permanent resident of the tank will be this guy:

Swamp thing action figure would be appropriate.

Yeah haha my friend says he's giving me one. But I love the action figure in there too, and if you're into the show him being lost in a field of moss is pretty appropriate.

Looks sweet! What kind of turtle?

Is that an African sideneck turtle?
Or a snake neck turtle?

-Andrew

Reimann's snake neck. Was originally going to get a Siebenrock's but these seem basically the same, and looks like a good specimen.

I'm debating whether to get this guy's slightly larger sibling or maybe 2-3 pink bellied sidenecks instead.
