Kind of like if you put a piece of paper on top of a full glass of water, put a book over that then turn it all upside down. Slowly lift the glass and the paper holds the water in by vacuum. I think we used paper, grade school was a lot of years ago. It could have been constructin paper.

the reason water will not flow out those holes is because the vaccum if the water level in those bowls ever get low enough for the holes to be exposed to air then water will gush out but as long as they are covered
that is sick! Even thought no air gets in like rottbo said you would still think that all that weight (=pressure) would find its way out.
Pretty cool. That would be so cool to do but, I would never try that, imagine if the vacume broke, there would be no way of stopping it.

see I almost guarantee that the water level in the bowls is level with the water level in he side tanks that are open as long as the water level stays full then there will never be a problem... what is crazy about that tank is that it is SW full of agressive fish talk about over stocked....
