i'm looking for fish that are comfortable on swift moving water. i have a 40 gallon tank w/ a rena filstar xp3 and the water moves pretty fast... i know plecos don't mind the strong current, but i was looking for fish that actually swim around...

Cory cats love fast moving water, they keep the bottom spotless and are constantly moving around up and down. That's a nice size for a school of Corys and still leaves you room at the top for something else.

Any fish currently in the tank? If not, you can always try dwarf chain loaches and then rasboras and danios.:D There are sticky threads in Loaches subforum for more details.

Puffers like a good current, and a 40 gallon would be great for a medium growing puffer. I have a Hairy Puffer in a 28 gallon bowfront with an XP3 with the powerjet.

Do you have the power jet on the XP3? The current doesn't have to move fast. You can turn down the power jet or replace it with a spraybar.

Pictus catfish come from fast water so a small group would enjoy that aquarium.

I had pictus cats before (ended up getting eaten by my aro), and they used to frustrate me. I have a pretty good current going in my tank. However, the only thing the cats did all the time was to swim into the current. They did this day and night. Anyways, that was my experience with pictus cats. The Doctor.

Danios!!!

thanks for the suggestions. i'm starting from scratch with this tank. i'm using the spray bar and i drill the holes to be a little bigger in an attempt to make the water jet out of the spray bar with less force. i don't know if it made a difference... how would dwarf pike cichlids do in such a tank? i could add plenty of driftwood, rocks, and plants.
