my temensis got shanked in the stomach a few months ago by my armatus that recently died. the bass was always swimmin from the top, then the bottom. it wasnt rely bad until yesterday. now he cant keep himself from swimmin upside down.

anyone have this b4? ever find something that helped?

Can you feed them peas? That is what I do when my fish get constipated and it makes the whole floating upside down and sideways go away. Peas are a laxative for fish.
Good luck!

4real!?!!??!?!!?!

im gonna try it!!!

Epsom salt added at 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons decreases swelling and relieves constipation. Just mix it up in a bucket of tank water prior to adding to the tank. Add enough Epsom salt to treat half of the tank's volume one day, and the other half on the next day. This works well, especially if the fish is feeling so sick that it's not eating, so you can't get any wet-frozen food or peas down its mouth. Also, be sure and check your ammonia and nitrite levels, ensuring they are zero, and your nitrate levels, ensuring it's less than 30.

specifically epsom salt? or just aquarium salt?

u agree on the feeding peas idea?

It has to be Epsom salt, because that's what provides those benefits. Aquarium salt isn't going to do much for you here. Epsom salt is cheap, though, and you can get it at any drugstore, and probably the grocery store, too. In fact, it's probably even cheaper than Aquarium salt! They're two different things, though, so they're definitely not interchangeable.

Feeding peas is fine, but as I said, I like Epsom salt because often fish who are very stressed from not even being able to stay upright won't eat. This is a good way of insuring they're getting what they need to help them. Also, some fish aren't going to eat peas, so this gets past the finicky eaters.

My fish go crazy over peas, no matter how they are feeling. I feed them peas every Thursday afternoon.

thanks very much!!

i might be able to force feed him peas also...

Boil the peas in the microwave for about 4 mins in a coffee cup, easier. Then de-shell them and mush them a little. If your fish is big enough, you might be able to just break the inside in half too and try feeding him that. My fish are fairly small so I mush about 5 peas in a spoon and then scoop the mush on my finger and drop it in. They LOVE it.
