hey i just got a 75 gall tank :grinno: want to use sand this time.can i use pool filter sand in it? :screwy: i have ugf in my 150. so i want to do something diff with the 75. please let me know.

Yes you can - just wash it real well first. You can use the thread search tool on this forum, search for pool filter (I left off sand) - it pulls up several posts w/ pics so you can kind of get an idea on what it costs, what it will look like, etc.

fairly cheap i think there are two kinds, one is white mostly silica and the other is what u would see on sand banks. well so goes the case in Australia i have used both needs a good wash before u put it in

i use course pool filter sand in almost all of my tanks... as for rinsing it.. it all depends on where you get it from... the last 3 bags i added to my tanks i didnt bother to rinse.. ive had other that i rinsed again and again and again.. best thing to do is throw a few handfuls in a bucked and add some water.. if its really cloudy after a few minutes you might want to rinse it.. if its not that bad then just add it...
no matter how well you rinse it make sure you turn your filters off when you add the sand..
a large bowl is a good thing to have on hand.. fill the bowl with sand.. let it fill with water slowly.. push it to the bottom of the tank and gently dump it out...
if you just dump it straight in no matter what its going to cloud like crazy and give you lots of bubbles...

Thank's all i think im going to go with the pool sand. look's nice O & last night my jd's gave berth. :nilly:so i will be having a lot of fry soon WOOOOOT.:headbang2
