Switching Back To Salt

Oh no, I meant it that way. I meant a "rather introduce him with two corals than to introduce him with fifteen corals" kind of thing. I shouldn't say win-win, that was a poor choice of words. Just not near as big of a loss if I try it early on.

Like I said, too, I'm still considering all options, anyway. I've got loads of time before I even toss a fish in, so there's time to decide. Just time to play the waiting game.

I disagree, I don't think one angel will destroy your corals over night. Maybe mine is different but it doesn't come out at night at all. I look at my tank all the time in the middle of the night and he is tucked away in the rocks, not swimming around foraging on the rocks. I haven't ever heard of a dwarf angel destroying corals over night. I'm sure they are capable of doing it over time. Maybe if it was tiny enough, but any decent size coral will survive a few nips. I wouldn't let a few horror stories keep your from buying a fish you want. Especially a fish that many have done it with out any problems at all.. It all depends on the fish..

Perhaps an overnight death isn't likely, but most of the time new corals are frags that start out pretty small. It sounds like you are one of the lucky ones. I've researched this in the past myself as I've wanted a flame angel for a long time but decided I liked my corals being healthy just a little more.

Here's some feedback from www.reefcentral.com

Meaty LPS corals are especially vulnerable.

If you have any dwarf angel in your reef tank, be prepared for it to nip at everything, and be happy if it doesn't. I currently have 5 dwarfs, and watch them nip all day long. Overall the damage isn't too bad, but it is there. However, any fleshy LPS will be eaten, completely.

I had a Flame Angel for a few years that couldn't resist Xenia, Poclopora and Green Zoas, but didn't appear to bother anything else I had. But a Half Black Angel I had just had to nip at everything as it swam around the tank. I mean it would constantly nip everything, so much that they all started to look crappy. He was removed a few days later. From my experience, they can range from not bothering anything to nipping at everything. I know it don't really help, but it's an experiment each time, that I've decided isn't worth it anymore.

Of course there are the occasional - I have a " " angel and it leaves everything alone, but those seem to be in the minority.

I understand. I wish you the best of luck - it seems that's what it takes to get a dwarf angel that leaves your corals alone!
