Switching from Hikari to NLS... what would you recommend?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your Cuban has no color he is just black and white lol! I never said your fish don't have color, where did you hear that?? It was your comment that you can train any fish to eat corn flake- that is not a fact but a assumption, I have had very picky fish that unless you starve them for a week they know exactly what they like, so don't act like you know every thing, cause every one on here can learn something new all the time, that's what makes this hobby so fun!
I am not a fan of marine but agree they are amazing set ups, the fish are much more sensitive like you stated, but this is a CA/SA forum if I recall, so they have no relevance here. A mix of good quality pellets and live or frozen food will ensure your fish thrive to there fullest.

Ummm that's because Cubans are black and white, there is also a tinge of color in the dorsal fin. I don't act like I know everything, but I at least contributed something of use to this thread and answered the OP's overall question. I've fed my fish only NLS pellets, Omega One wafers and freeze dried treats. My fish are healthy and look amazing. I'm not changing what is working for them.

Dude 3mm is def. Not too big for 3.5-6" cichlids, I once fed my 4" rainbow cichlids and gouramis 6mm pellets ;) although I would recommend 2mm.

Nice looking fish there, clockwork. Some real funny and ignorant comments on here. Made my day reading a few pages of this that I hadn't read yet.

I don't believe there's anything wrong with the Hikari food that I've been feeding. Nothing at all. I just want to try NLS for a while, that's all. As for the people that said it will take a while to switch foods... I really doubt it. My fish are like miniature, aquatic pigs. I've fed them many fruits/vegetables they've never seen and it was still devoured readily.

saltwater fish are easy to keep for the most part and very interactive with just as much personality as the most personable cichlid, not just colorful so you should practice what you preach and don't act like you know about keeping saltwater aquariums when it's obvious you don't know very much.

for the original post, i would go with 3mm large fish formula

I feed Hikari products exclusively and have had nothing but good results with it. 10/10 in my book.

Good diet, water quality, stress, tank layout............all plays a part in fish coloration.

I agree with everything you said. I've fed Hikari for a few years to various fish and have had wonderful results with it. I'm mainly just interested to see what all the rave is with NLS. I want to see if there is a noticeable difference in my fish. The cost difference is pretty negligible in terms of $/gram if you get the 5 lb bucket of NLS.

My 4inch geos love nls 0.5mm and 1mm, hikari bio gold medium and omega one veggie and shrimp pellets. Variety is key.

Sent from my SGH-I727R using MonsterAquariaNetwork App

I mix a bunch of different pellets all sizes....and a lot of frozen food. (Krill/bloodworms/black worms/meal worms etc.)
But really I like NLS and Hikari. your fish will color up the best if you vary their diet.

Spent big bucks on NLS pellets and my fish just spit it out. I don't think they can chew it! The expiration is 2013, but I swear it's stale and hard as a rock. It was 'new' a month ago.

Are all NLS pellets much harder than Hikari pellets or did I get a bad batch?
