yea i gotta get some prices on slate or some kinda rock.

Dude do not buy rocks at a LFS/pet store b/c they are a rip off, if you can go find a local stone yard that sells truck loads of rock by the ton you can save some cash. I got a wheelbarrow full of TX holy rock/slate/pagoda stone and round river rocks for 20 bucks that would have cost me hundreds of dollars in the LFS. Granted it may be dusty and dirty but save 90% and hit it with a garden hose later right?

cool man i get excited just thinking about it here is a pic of my tank i know that the tanks aquascape is probably not suitavle for africans but ima change all of that if it isnt. you all probably seen it from my other threads

Sandstone and slate are very stackable and readily available at any quarry or stone supply. This is my 210g with 30 Africans...Malawi, Tang. and Mbuna etc. They are all hiding in the picture from the Oscar that cruises the upper level of the tank. Caves and hiding places are essential for success in raising Africans. Also, I have had more success with a coarse sand vs. gravel as these fish LOVE to dig...so dont stack rockwork on the sand, move it out of the way and set the rock work on the glass(carefully) or you could end up with an avalanche!! Seriously.

WOW your tank is awsome is that oscar in the tank with africans? wow love the tank ill make sure to move the sand out of the way so it wont cause an accedent love the tank

That Oscar is 13" and he cant catch the Africans. The gravel has been changed recently to #12 white-ish blasting sand and looks sick!
There are two big plecos in there also. Africans cant hurt them but they pick on them when they are in their territories...which is everywhere!
Thanks for the compliments!

Hurry and set up your tank and post pics!!!
Hurry.

I am looking to do the same with the 55 gallon that I have sitting in my basement...the only thing is that I want more than just 2 different breeds of Africans...At some point I had found this website that evaluated your tank and would tell you what Africans would be most adaptable...any ideas what that site might be?

Also...as far as rock check out Lace Rock...I think its what I will be using in my tank...just need to find some now
