Switching to the darkside.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some updates from last time.

The finger seafan is still doing well, all of the polyps come out for feeding day or night. Added some more rock for the left side. And added a tiny clownfish. At first it was swimming against the glass trying to get out, but a day later it's looking around the tank and rocks, blenny is cautious but relaxed.

everything looks great. Im so glad to see that this tank is going as well as it is for you. Congrats and keep the updates coming

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I ended up with the Jebo 72 watt PC. There will be more updates, because I have barely any corals in there, but I will fill out the right side first and then the left side.

The baby frogspawn is also doing well, getting bigger and now gettings the light tips.

As soon as this tank hits the 6 month mark, I'm ordering a 30 gallon rimless showtank, with metal halides. :)

That will be a nice tank. Watch the temp of the tank with that to make sure you dont heat it up to much. also make sure you have it mounted high enough so you dont burn your corals. Do the math on the depth of the tank and the will determine placement height of the light.

Everything is about 12 inches away from the actual bulbs, except the frogspawn. At first they were on the ground, but I kept moving them and they opened up the fullest and had the best colors close to the light. The zoos did better near the midsection of the tank, and mushrooms liked the lower parts.

im talking about when you switch to MH. The intensity is far greater then pc bulbs will replicate so you will want to adjust the corals slowly. The best method is to get some dowels and place them on the tank and then have 5-6 sheets of mesh screen to block some light, and remove a sheet once a week until corals are fully adjusted. Keep in mind that you should start with 5-6 sheets right away and if thats to much and no light gets through remove a sheet or 2 until it looks a little brighter then with pcs.

Ah, cool good to know. I plan on getting the metal halides that come on the adjustable ceiling mounts, so I can leave it high and maybe bring it down slowly.

Well, I learned a lesson. Make sure you suctions work properly, the suction on my heater didn't work, fell into the sand, and when I came home the tank was milk. The clown and the blenny probally cooked to death. Corals are probally dead too, not sure yet, zoos wont open, frogspawn looks shriveled, sea fan is doing awesome, and musrooms are still good.
