How much algae are the oto's going to control from the inside of that aro?
Not much, that, and if they do survive, they will pick on the larger arowana's slime coating. Otos often do this, and can stress a fish out very easily. Not a good match for an arowana.

I don't think... I know. I keep both in most of my tanks. I know that a 4" SL pleco of pretty much any species will not be able to be supported by a leaf that is as weak as a amazon sword in its emersed growth, converting to submerged growth. 4" is not 'pint sized', it is quite a bit of weight compared to the strength of a stem. An extremely large pleco could weigh the leaf down, but even so, it is rare for them to eat live plants, unless they are not being fed a proper diet.
You've not witnessed something by your fish, and I have from mine. What more is there to say.

Thanks for the info. the pelco is about 15cm and is feed very well on different raw veggies, meaty frozen blocks and algae wafers. oto's will not last in the tank as i had 8 SAE in before and they tend to disappear slowly. I am hoping it is emersed growth because i dont think i will be removing the pelco regardless. thanks guys

I have witnessed, I'm telling you that it is not something that happens with properly fed plecos. If you are having this happen, then you either should get rid of your pleco, as you aren't feeding him, or you need to read the pleco dietary thread.

If you look at the amazon that is below the aro's tail, that one has completely changed to submerged growth. The one on the far right will eventually turn into that.

^^wyldfya knows what hes talking about.. im not sayin that theres no chance the the pleco is doing some damage.. but it would not be my first guess..
my swords as well as a few other plants have done the same thing.. they look like crap for a bit and the leaves die off but then the plant sends up new leaves and the plant looks 100000X better.. i thought it was my pleco at first but he would just crash through the swords or sit on them.. but he never ate them..

otos are pretty good at cleaning up.. but less overfeeding more water changes is a better way to fight algae.. you might want to give them a try just because they are so small you aro might ignore them .. either way be sure to put them in a Qtank for a week or 2.. no fun having a 1 inch $1 fish wipeout a whole tank..
