snookman;3919951; said:There are 12 species of snook, 6 of which range from the gulf to the Atlantic, the remaining 6 are the Pacific counterparts. They were at one point only 6 species until DNA testing separated the groups. It is believed that the Panama canal is where the species first went to the Pacific side. That being said, I know that C. ensiferus can be imported from areas like Guyana. Snook in FL are under very tight regulation. No matter the species the fish must measure between 27" and 32" with a pinched tail and must be harvested in one of 2 open seasons dieting the year and you can only keep one fish. That being said, I highly doubt anyone anytime soon will be collecting them in FL. I know that some vendors have connections with people importing from the Central Americas and thought I'd ask here.
