Sylla my Sanchezi update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you, yeah my camera kind of hides his true color.

I use Hikari Cichlid Gold, but every fish owner uses something different. The reason why I've stuck with Hikari is because I own cichlids, and feed them Cichlid Golds as well. Kill 2 birds with one stone...

Other MFKers on here helped me with pellet training. It took him about 3-4 weeks of not eating before he went for the pellets. I know it was a long time, but it definitely payed off. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing your piranha go for pellets after 4 weeks of training lol.

My Mac tried the first day. He'll eat maybe half of a long pellet but not very aggressively. He tried from the first day of me offering. I'm getting real tired of siphoning old sunken pellets out haha. I'll give it another 2 weeks. Ive tried small floating pellets before but it just isnt recognized as food at all.

Yeah I stuck with the small floating Cichlid Golds the whole time training. At first he didn't even look at them. But I think the pellets are so potent to fish, they know the second it hits the water...I think they're just spoiled on different food sources to really care.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you are supposed to fast the fish before shipping.. so when I ordered from aquascape, he arrived very skinny. Immediately, I fed him shrimp as a staple, and over the course of 6 months he became stubbornly spoiled and wouldn't touch any other food source I tried to feed him. That's when I started weening him towards pellets.

So I think they definitely know when food is being placed in the tank, I just think they become spoiled off of other foods. I got into the habit of feeding him a variation of pellets, shrimp and tilapia partially for that reason.

Like everyone else told me: keep at it, he'll eventually come around.
