What is this? It is hard to describe, but it looks like a thin layer of skin or something. Otherwise the rays belly is white as is the undersides of the other 2 flower rays. If this is bacterial it did not respond to 5 days of Nitrofurazone. The ray acts normal, it is very aggressive and active. Always has an appetite. This condition has been present for at least four months.

It should be normal, its the same pattern as the back so it probably for some reason just showed up. I checked just now and my retic also has it, the pattern is all over the edge of the disk.

Does it look lik the skin is folded in or does it look flat?

Bacterial I see this with leo's the bottom of disk will start to discolor around the entire edge. Our only treatment that worked for this is PERMOXYN it's diluted form of potassium permangante I also would not recommend this treatment for normal hobbyist it can cause extreme damage to ray is not done properly or even death.

So what will happen if the ray goes untreated? It sounds like this treatment is kinda risky? My flower also has this now with the other rays and there bacteria problem.

it may have something to do with its slime coat and may not be bacterial.

just a thought im not really sure.

that looks nothin like a slime coat problem....

what about a heavy dose of maracyn and maracyn2??? worth a shot

Is it terminal? Any other insight as far as progression, etc.?

Sorry, the pics don't do it justice, it looks like the skin is sloughing off... sounds bad, but that is the only way I can describe it.

Maracyn I + II sounds risky, I cannot risk knocking out my entire filtration system. I think I will start to cycle a larger QT tank for her. I just have put it off because of the stress it will cause her being moved and crammed into a smaller tank, but it could be lessor of 2 evils. She is gonna be pissed in a 125!
