Syn??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no it is not a Zonatum..

Zons got thick black from eyes to tail.
Zons do not have body shapes like that. Nor faces like that. lol
Zons do not have dominant red fins. Only at the tip.
This fish have red spots.
Zons are mainly blue, white, black.

The body, face, and red spots is of a Hartegi. I think it's a Hartwegi but from tampered bloodline.

Wrong. I'm very familiar with the fish. Here's 302 photos at various sizes for comparison. Started taking photos of the fish at three inches.

Zonatus with red tail at that size

The fish in the OP photo doesn't have a thick line...they don't have to have a thick line:

The fish IS shaped like zonatus. (lol) head and body.

What the heck is a "tampered bloodline"? Is this another hybrid alert?

Thanks. Great fish. Lots of personality.

Same here. After looking at some of the photos of your fish I knew I loved the group and its what I created part of my list of fish I really wanted. Ive currently got 2 each Juvi maculicauda, Argentea, zonatus, synspilus.

Some of them are starting to exhibit the chnages. Some Im having hard time telling what they are. Im hoping it wont be so difficult to sex them. Prefer to end up with a male of each. Not sure im wanting to keep any females. Unless I end up with some more tank room to spread them out.

Mo I kno you have a nice Zonatum

If it is a Zonatum, I don't see a pure Zonatum. Could be Zon x Hart.. It's ok to have disagreements.

I hope this fish gets updated for the rest of its life.

I know it's be a nice blinging fish

Hey aquamojo how big did your other vieja get? Breidohri, bifa, syn, zo, coatzacoalcos, pearsei?

GS4

Breidohri 13" male...but thick high body. Bifasciatus I never had bigger than 10-11". I have one pair at a friends house that are ten yrs old. I need to photo them soon. Melanurus...11". Zonatum was huge. 14"
Same with Pearsei. Coats...10-11".

I seriously think breeding fish when they are young stunts the growth. Energy is going to go somewhere...breed or grow. I think the former takes precedent. And I've proven this to myself time and again with a breeding pair much smaller than the non of the same fry. Anyway...nice Zonatum. You won't be disappointed I'm sure.
