mobile phones, the reason I asked is my dad recently recieved a text message showing weird numbers and what not, kind of looked like instructions. Then he decided to call the phone number using the house phone, not the cellphone. When he calls the number his phone rings, the one that got the text.

So basically my dad got a text, he called the number using another phone, his phone that got the text rings.

Any ideas?

I would have a few ideas, nothing 100% tho.

From what I understand, caller ID is blind.

A phone can send the id of 12345678 and your phone will be like, well why would he lie? of course thats his number.

So then the idea would be that someone has a call forwarding set up @ that number, so when anyone calls it, it fowards to your phone.

Either a) you're being spied on
b) expensive prank
c) very weird switching error

Very cheap prank with a trixbox or some other for of asterisk server. Setup the server to simply call forward to your victim, then have the server send a text. When anyone calls the asterisk server the victims phone rings.

I think you can buy sip minutes fro like 10 bucks.
