Synispilum or Melanarus?

Most would argue pic 1 is clearly sysnpilus and the 2nd is clearly melanurus...right?

Both are Paratheraps melanurus "Lago Peten".

Actually, the fish in the first pic IS the male in pic 2. Same exact fish a few weeks later.

DNA testing proved Paratheraps melanurus and Paratheraps synspilus are the same fish.

Couldn't agree more - bravo Lee!

Scientific names matter most to scientists. But collection locations are (or should be) most important to hobbysists trying to maintain strains authentic (as possible) to wild populations...

Very well said. I don't care if scientists re-classify them together. I would just want to know that I was getting what I thought I should when I order them from a breeder.

Next thing you know Pluto will be a planet again. :ROFL:
