Hey,

These are some old pics in case anyone's interested. I bred these successfully with Labidochromis perlmutt and Astatotilapia nubilus. If you have any questions feel free.

how did you get them to breed

hey i just got a syno. euptera not to long ago and what should i feed him he seems to like the sinking wafers and shrimp pellets i give to my loaches so yeah

that what i feed my 4 synos

The syno wigglers are so much bigger! Do the cichlids get to raise any of their own fry along side the synos? Thanks for posting!

The "cuckoos" actually swarm spawning pairs of mouth-brooding cichlids. They lay their eggs and the female cichlid in a frantic picks up her own and the catfish eggs. The catfish eggs hatch within a couple days and immediately start feeding on the cichlid eggs and fry while inside the mouth. It's recommended to have a group of about four cats. Two females and two males is perfect. They are easy to sex. Males show a genital papilla that is conical in shape.

The synodontis fry grow like mad! Literally every day they put on size til about 2 inches. You can get these little suckers to 1.5" in under two months.

They're a pleasure to raise and you don't need an overly large tank. I bred mine in a 50-gallon tank with a couple breeding colonies of mouthbrooders.

I highly suggest over-feeding your catfish fry. Ok, not over-feed but keep them full. They will cannibalize eachother otherwise.

I typically stripped the holding female cichlids after about five days. This allowed the cats to put on a little size. The cichlids fry/eggs were simply left for the cats to devour.

These guys are a blast to raise and I totally recommend them. I will definitely be getting another breeding group of these in the near future.
