The best hosts are the ones that breed like rabbits. Some cichlids learn and will stop breeding. Labidochromis, Haplochromis, Astatotilapia, Otopharynx lithobates, Metriaclima callainos and estherae, Labeotropheus trewavasae, and Pseudotropheus acei; are all good choices for hosts. Any mouthbrooder should work but these seem to have the most success.

Another good tip is to have big mouthbrooders. You get more kitties that way. For example, a 2-inch labidochromis will typically hold 20 cichlid eggs while a large 4-inch female Labeotropheus or Metriaclima can hold upwards of 50+ cichlid eggs, so they can fit more catfish eggs.

Just a tip.

So funny story. My original group of Multies I sold to a friend of mine 1.5 years ago. I was slowing down in the fish world and my interests were waning from the hobby. Last week I happened to be checking out the For Sale section on our local forum and I saw someone was selling 4 adult multies for $25! I replied and went to pick them up, not recognizing the name or the voice on the phone.

Turns out it was my friend who I had sold them to! So I got my original group back and now have them in with a group of Gephyrochromis lawsi. I'm picking up more and more lawsi to get a big group going. I'm excited to breed the multies again!

Unfortunately it seems I have 3 males and 1 female. So I want to pick up atleast one more gal. lol.

what minimum size can you sex them at?
