I've currently got ten synodontis ranging in size from 5-7" in my 180 gal. this is a bit of a random question, but what do you think is the smallest size tank that I could get away with keeping all these guys in. I definitely want to down size my tank collection, and was debating on keeping or selling these guys.

eupterus and ocellifer. I started out with four... when people found out I had a 180 for them, people just kept dumping theirs on me (moving, outgrew their tank, aggression issues, etc)... within three months, i went from 4 to 10... actually, 11 now... and no one wants synos, and i'd much rather not have to bring them to a pet store...

I'd rather keep only 6 in a 180g. 11 seems overcrowded.lol

know of any good solutions? if it were up to me, i'd just keep my original 4... but, i don't have the heart to ditch them at a pet store, and i'm not a big fan of giving away free fish on craigslist...

Try our Classifieds section. Some MFK members will get them. Try AC as well.

depending on the set up a 180 with all those synos would look pretty cool. Hoewever, i definately wouldnt do that many eupterus and ocellifer, but you dont get to pick and choose your free fish.

I would think 125 would be an absolute minimum for that many synos. Any smaller than that and i can see some serious territory issues arising.

there are some territorial issues now, but because there are so many of them, it's not like one single fish is getting picked on continuously. and actually, they only squabble when the decor gets moved around, and once they've each established their territory, they're as happy as can be. They all come out at once during feeding time to the "clearing" in the middle of the tank where I feed them.
