My LFS has one 8" Synodontis Clarias, apparently it is really rare and hard to get hold of, I have reserved it for now and wanting to do more research on the species!

No much info available on the net or on this forum.

Can anyone share some information? What's the size they reach in captivity? What is a good diet? Are they agresssive? How long do they live? Do their colours get more intense with age or fade away?

Thank you all

To get more info and to affirm the ID, I'd earnestly propose you pose your question on Planet Catfish.

While Synodontis clarias may be easy because of its red tail, the syno ID should never be taken for granted / easy. It's an enormous genus, which is in addition plagued with man made hybrids.

I've not come across a single clarias keeper on MFK. I've come across half a dozen on PCF over a decade.

Fair to say this is a rare fish then??? Or just no one interested in this species?!

I have wanted a clarias since I was keeping African cichlids years ago but have never found any in the shops over the years.I have recently spotted some online in recent years and although I am no longer into Africans I may still go ahead and get one.Good for you in tracking down a nice sized clarias, how much is it if you don't mind my asking?

It's up for £60 GBP, store said it's incredibly rare and never seen on the list

Nice,I certainly have never seen them offered at that size.

Do you think this is genuine Synodontis Clarias and not a hybrid?
Having not seen the fish I can't say for certain one way or the other but if you study photos of clarias on sights such as the aforementioned Planetcatfish and other sources you should be able to look at your specimen and judge for yourself.
I'm looking forward to seeing it when you get it.

Hopefully it works!
Yes, looks right to me. As stated, they are very rare and again, if you'd like some tangible feedback, I'd recommend asking on Planet Catfish.

K krichardson I have seen them for sale at WetSpot, Rapps, Rehoboth, aquabid, ebay in the US.
