Great with Oscars, too ;-) Much less of a bio-load and a lot better cleaner-uppers and normally around 7". Just need to make sure the Oscar can't get it in his mouth.
yeah there was a big thing on here about a year or so ago and we were trying to figure out if it was actually longirostris or if it was a hybrid. We basically came to the conclusion that they are a hybrid. Of what? we still dont know for sure, but i think that unless you order one from a distributor or straight from africa, its not likely that you'll end up with an actually longirostris. Sad..... really want one of those monsters.
Ahhh...well that's interesting. I didn't realize they were difficult to find. They get too big for what I want. If the ones at PetsMart were hybrids they were sure pretty ones. I need to go check out some catfish sights.....
Yours looks like multipunctatus to me. Absolutely beautiful fish. Wow. Wait to hear what someone else thinks though because so many of them look the same to me. There's also the synodontis ocellifer but their spots aren't as big or as close together as your catfish.
That's one gorgeous catfish you have there!
Edit: Do you remember what you bought him as?
well my girlfriend got it for me, it was actually free when she bought me an archer fish. came in the same shipment and they hadnt orderd them in so the lfs guy gave her one since we were regulars
well thanks for the help, like i said i never really knew what exactly what kind of syno it was. great fish, but it does hide a lot during the day but very active at night (which is probably to be expected). eats basically anything that reaches the bottom and doesn't really bother any of its tankmates. about 6in after a year
