Synodontis pictures please............... post!!

Hi everyone, enjoying this thread.

I have a photo of my syno here. I bought him nearly 2 years ago and I honestly do not see ANY growth from him whatsoever. He is in a 150gal with loaches and a common plec with silver sharks. I feed 3 times a day - algae wafers, courgette, melon, peas, quality flake, prima, catfish sinking pellets.

What am I doing wrong? He is still only 2-3 inches as when I bought him and his head looks MASSIVE compared to his body (doesnt have a belly or a bulge - best way I can describe it is what an anorexic looks like.) He has hiding places and sometimes comes out for breif periods during the day but mostly night with lights off i see him more. i have NEVER seen it eat a thing. It must eat SOMETHING since it's still alive but it cannot be much.

Also Liz, can you tell me what syno I have - it was sold as a network but it looks like either an euruptus or ocillifer to me?

Please help me, tearing my hair out here.

i have the same one in one of my tanks...looks like a ocillifer just like mine... i also have growth issues with this one... they seem to be slow growers and not as hardy or aggressive as the uruptus synodontis... and because of this very reason i moved mine out of the african tank he was in... i felt he was never getting enough to eat there... and i think the same thing is happening in your situation.. you have many ground feeders... although he is in a large tank... all the others manage to scoff up everything before slow poke gets a chance to even wake up... if he really appears thin to you and if not too much trouble you can put him in small tank by himself... see if he rebounds... and once he gets use to eating again then rehome him into the big tank..and maybe he will become a more aggressive eater... thats what i am hoping with mine... i will wait until he is plump and eating good and try again..

Thanks for the advice Liz, it sounds about right!

here is a shot of one of my groups from my 140g I just tore the tank apart to redo it so that there would be more visibility

Hi Liz. Problem I have is that I have done just that, it just starred at it for about 30 mins then the other fish found it and ate it. But it had like 30 mins where it just sat doing nothing. Is something wrong with it? I have just this second put it into a massive 20litre bucket and stuck a mini filter on it
ill try just feeding it there - nothing yet, food is just sitting at bottom. I know it might be scared from just being moved, but it has always done this. Starting to think something is wrong with it and I should put it out of it's misery but I don't want to do that.
