Synodontis quartet, ~8"-12", in 4500 gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A month later 9 inch 8yo decorus male follows. At the moment no good reason can be fathomed. Maybe these tank bred syno don't have the longevity of their wild kin?

Another eupterus rescue and yet another case of synodontis parasitic behavior on an oscar this time:

I only have 2, 12 year old Feather fin catfish. One almost killed the other after living together all these years. They have their own tanks now! The injured one is almost all healed up.

Glad to hear. Yes, we touched upon this with you in your other comment. It goes to show how unpredictable things can pop up after such a long time of peaceful coexistence. A priori, an experienced peer would have said that two featherfin synos was a gamble and not the best idea and one must be vigilant and prepared to separate. Sometimes one has to wait for 12 years to see the basis for this cautioning. Wow... I've personally had a dozen of encounters with peers who said that their 2 syno eupterus, sometimes more, live well with each other for many years in smaller tanks like 120 gal and smaller... We've had for 20 years now up to 6-8 together and with other large riverine aggressive synos but in big ponds and tanks, 1500 gal, 4500 gal, then 1800 gal, and lately 4-6 have been well in a 240 gal but with a motley crew of other aggressive fish (timeout tank) so they have to mind their defense and interactions with everyone and have no time or convenient opportunities to make advances against each other.
