Synspilum lumps

Anyone have any ideas what these lumps are or what causes them.

My synspilum is 12 years old.she lives in a 100 gallon tank with 4 silver dollars, a plec and a Nicaraguan.i feed sparingly 6 days a week and do 50 percent water changes weekly.i have 2 filters fluval fx5 and fx6. I also have a reverse under gravel filter powered by 2 power heads.

I am stumped by what it is. There are 2 lumps, either side of the tail fin, one small and one around 15mm in diameter. There is no movement in the lumps.

Other than the lumps the fish looks happy and healthy, and is
swimming and eating normally.

Some fish are prone to tumors. It's a genetic thing I was told. My paradise fish had a similar one on his back. It was ugly and I hated looking at it- but it didn't impair him at all. The fish lived for almost a decade. He defeated the tumor twice it broke apart and dissolved-only to grow back in a month or two.

Thanks for that, I am pleased that it isn't a disease and that it isn't life threatening. This explains why my internet search was fruitless.

Having said that the large lump looks like the 'skin' on the lump is coming off. Also the Small lump has got a lot larger, is longer and more tubular in shape and has red bits on the end

Does this still sound like they are just harmless tumers.

Tumors can be benign or malignant. Everyone told me to euthanize my fish. I did not listen to them and enjoyed 5 or more years of my fish "Flipper". We named him that because he would jump out of the water to snatch food out of your hand. His tumor was just gross it didn't diminish him or shorten his life. Some tumors can keep growing inside your fish as well as outside. Those tumors kill pretty quick in humans and pets. Lymphocystis (which your fish doesn't have) -is actually contagious it is a type of cancerous tumor that effects them on the outside - those are characterized by hard white lumps. Even that can be controlled with higher temps.

Lymphocystis is a virus that is controlled by stress reduction

yes lymphocystis is a virus not a cancer my bad. I found raising temps really helped. It was gone a week or less. What you got is not that though.
