Synspilum tankmates????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So should I get rid of the synspilum or will he be ok by himself in the 90?

My 9" male Synspilum is quite a brute.. I have my tank full of hiding places and he shares with much smaller Salvini, Jewel Cichlids, convicts and a large Firemouth.

yeah probs bets to keep him on his own in terms of cichlids if he is mean. just add a couple of Raphael cats or something to the bottom.

you can get away with a couple smaller species. You can do pairs of jewels as mentioned before. They are tough little suckers like cons. 5 Star General Cichlids are nasty little bastards. And Neets always hold their own. Just aqua-scape the tank with the mindset these small fish needs small places. A big 10" Sysn which is only a few months away can't get into a small cave. Unless he Bulldozes it over.

It might be a Veija Bifaciatus, because I have syns and they are very peaceful ,for veija's, but I heard that the bifa's are nasty and look the same as Syn's????

Not a good way to identify a sp. by aggression. Not all syns are peaceful. It depends on the fish's personality and its territory.
OP-a JD or salvini should work.

Doesn't sound like a syns because juvenile syns are known to be shy and skiddish, particularly if it is new to the group. There are many look alike syns that are more assertive, such as fenestratus and bifaciastas. Do you have a picture?

Yes, individual fish has different personality depending on personal space and tankmates. But as a group of the species, their temperament falls within a predictable range.
