Hello, would like to get all the info., I can on T-barbs. Hardyness, companions, any and all info anyone has on them. Thank you

i had 3 of them with silver dollars danios kissing gurami, molly and some red striped tail loachs. They tore up my silver dollar's fins until i added 3 more. Its best to have more than less of them. it helps with their aggresion.

Why did it help with their aggression to have more, did they then chase each other around and leave the others alone?

yep but they dont nip each others fins.

Ok, so they just sort of chased each other around without nipping anyone anymore? They stoped chasing all the other fish? Are they hardy?, are they interesting?, are they pretty?

very hardy so active they never bother any other fish in my tank, just the sd's until i added 3 more. at one time i thought of having a all tbarb tank. nice color choices i have 4 regular 1 green and 1 albino. they are easy fish too keep.

Tiger barbs rock. I prefer the albino variety myself. I had great luck with them. I still have only 1.5 years of fishkeeping under my belt, so I'm still a rookie really. When I was brand new though, I quickly found out that these were one of the few fish that survived my first tank. First tank was 29 gallon with about 30 juvenile fish in it. Wasn't properly cycled either. I was just asking for trouble. The tigers held up the best it seemed.

And yes, they are fin nippers. Keep them in groups of six or more to help, and don't put any fish in with really flowy tails like bettas or something.

yes the bigger the group the better these tigers do. i have to say these are pretty sweet for tetras....almost like a mini school of pirahana when it comes to flake or pellets lol.

go with 7 at the least, and you'll love these guys (i like the green ones, they show up wiht awesome shades of blue and green and all sorts of crazy stuff)

not tiger barbs, T-barbs they are completely different

Also commonly called Spanner barbs - google Puntius (or Barbus) lateristriga and you will find some info.

I have had these in the past and they are nice fish. They get large, I had some that were 5-6" and need at least a 4 foot tank. Not nippy like Tiger barbs. The males get somewhat of a hump on the head when they get large and older.

They are not so colourful though, more of a drab barb.

If you are looking for a really nicely coloured barb that also gets large, check out Arulius barbs - Puntius (or Barbus) arulius. They get up to 4.5-5".
The males especially are stunning. They develop long extensions to the dorsal fins and sometimes the caudal fins and have very nice colours.

Burt:)
