Table / Fish tank combination build.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
From your stated dimensions I also calculated it to be 36.36 UK Gallons. I didnt look at the link you provided. Since your an engineer youll already know to double this to build in a safety factor. If your in the IT industry you`d then put in two seperate filters for redundancy.

Do you plan to have live plants in this? I can see that being much harder than keeping a few hardy fish.

I knida have a similar project going, but it's going to be out doors. Good Luck with it.

all i can see is a bunch of guys leaning on the table drinking beers watching fish, when spilly hands comes along and accidently knocks a beer over that leaks into the tank. Really cool idea tho, I would go with a sump under the tank its probly the easiest way and you could still hide it from being to noticable. Maybe use deep sand bed in the sump instead of bio balls, could give you less maintinance and maybe even use prefilters in the overflows so that you can easily change them.

You guys are right, I used the wrong calculation to find gallons (for some reason I was thinking LxWxH/141, dimensions in inches. Not sure where I got that)

I will looks into the external canister filters and sumps, thanks for the suggestions.

We are working on a gasket and way to tighten down the top glass to ensure that we don't have any drunk fish:eek:

Probably not any live plants, either.

A school of brightly coloured cardinals/neons would be excellent, leave it at that. Cleaning woiuld be too much otherwise with larger fish. Stick to a sump or external canister filter, Eheim perhaps? As for smell, carbon takes care of that.

If You want low Maintenance fish.
Best option would be to go for, Danios and WCMM's
Long Finned Zebras and Gold Danios would look amazing in that tank.

You can have peppered Cories as a Bottom Dweller, as we use those in coolwater tanks in the Uk.
Rubberlip/Bulldog Plecs, Hill Stream Loaches are also good for Cool Water tanks.
Apple snails do well in Cool water also

My roomate ordered all of the supplies and parts for the tank, they should be in this week. A good canister filter and a bunch of plants and stuff, he is racking up quite a bill.

We have assembled and glued the tank together in the frame, but have had a few leaks spring up, and it takes 48 hours for the silicon to fully cure, so it is a slow process getting it right.

Thanks for the suggestions on fish, everybody. It is his tank, so it is up to him, but he usually follows my advice.

On another note, I got bored waiting for this tank to get going, and went out and bought a 29 gallon for myself last night. Went to the LFS earlier today, and already have 4 zebra danios happily schooling in there. I used the bacteria supplement stuff the shop recommended to get it started fast, if the danios are still healthy in a few days I am going to add some more fish.

You used silicone to hold the plexy together? Hhmmmm...Don't leave any of your stuff on the floor :D.

PIc updates!
