I did some searching and could not find a really definitive answer. Is there a real difference between using table salt v Aquarium salt? Is it really worth spending the extra money on Aquarium salt?

Thanks Just! I wish I could have found that post when I was searching. I guess I wasn't searching for the right thing. Thanks again.

Not all table salt is IODIZED. You can go to your local grocer and get table salt without IODINE. It's a medical issue.

No problem -- I'm glad that the ridiculous number of hours I spend on this site daily has been of help to someone! :D

You are right, we only use Kosher in our kitchen, and it contains no additives. However, it's more expensive than regular old iodized, and so the price difference between Kosher and Aquarium salt seems to shrink.

I recently had a GT come down with ich due to stupid wet driftwood from my stupid LFS who feels it necessary to keep their driftwood in their stupid pond. LOL anyway I chose to go with Aquarium salt simply because if I used up all of the Kosher, I'd have to buy more of that, anyway, and it's really not that much cheaper than the stuff at the LFS.

I use water softener salt. I get a 40 pound bag at albertsons for 6 dollars. Just make sure to look at the ingredients because some of them have bonding agents in them. The generic cheap store brand ingredients read only sodium chloride. I've never had any problems with it and its a heck of a lot cheaper.

what you should do is buy pure sodium and use that :)

dont do that Na explodes in contact with water
