table saws

A tablesaw has a lot of uses- angled cuts, cutting grooves, rabbets, dadoes, tenons, etc., and can cut sheet goods easily with the proper (read: expensive) setup, but is overkill if you just want it for building your tanks. It's easier to cut sheet goods with a circular saw and straightedge, especially if you are working by yourself. Here's how to make a nice big straightedge: http://www.woodmagazine.com/woodvision/?videoId=4255203. It requires a circular saw and router, which will both be very helpful in building the tank too, so you might as well get them.

If you want to do other woodwork, the tablesaw might be a good investment. I agree with Chaz- avoid the lighter, portable saws. They're not good for cutting plywood. You'll need infeed and outfeed tables too.
